Adventure 1- The Surface [Action]

IIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

[Anyone in the area of Luceti's beach has probably just heard an ear-splitting, sonic screech. The astute observer (or, even the non-astute observer) may notice uncharacteristically large waves breaking up on the beach. For any curious enough, if they look out to sea, they'll notice something spectacular. A large pink mermaid is splashing about, swimming quickly one direction, then crying out- much more quietly now- and changing directions suddenly. She does this a number of times, then dives deep, only to surface a few minutes later, looking for all the world like she's trying to beat the world record for "longest surface jump made by a fish". Whatever her goal is, she doesn't appear to be achieving it, because the process repeats itself over and over.

Those with extremely good eyesight, or who are brave (or stupid) enough to try getting closer may notice a bit of flotsam trailing along behind her.

[Her eyes are filling up with tears as she lays the book in her other hand.]

Where's the receiver? It looks just like a book.

[Yes, see? It's okay. It looks just like a book. A normal, not-Vander Decken-thrown book.]

Wh- Where did it come from?

It is just a book, everything is inside it.

It comes from being here. From... the same place you got the wings on your back, eh.

This is Luceti. Everyone here from another world has those wings and these journals.

[Eeeeh? She has wings?

Shirahoshi drops the book, trying to look and reach over her shoulder at the same time. The result is that she just spins in a circle in the water, unable to accomplish either task. After a second turn, she gives up, dropping her hands dejectedly into her lap under the water.

The Bird-Marco-Phoenix-sama is telling her a lot of things, she really ought to concentrate on that. The surface is so full of complicated things!]

S- so you're saying that I... Th- that I can't go home when I'm ready?

[Nods slowly.]

We're in a different world, so there's no way to willingly get back to the Grand Line right now.

There are other people from home here though! You probably never met Keimi, but she's here, and the Straw Hat pirates are too.

[Shirahoshi breaks out into a grin.]

Really? Luffy-sama and Namichin-sama and everyone else is here too?

[Well, that makes this an awesome place.]

[Nods.]

Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Vivi, and Robin. [Robin <3. No that's not visible, or audible, because he's always deadpan. But there's definitely a lighter tone to his voice when he says her name.] And the swordsman I haven't met yet, Zoro. But he's here too.

Haaaaaa! I know them! They helped save Father-sama and my Brothers-sama when Hody-sama was going to kill them!

[She should probably not sound half as happy saying those words as she does.]

Are you their friend?

[Nearly falls out of the sky at that.]

WHAT?! What happened to King Neptune? And Prince Fukaboshi? WHO'S HODY?!?!

[Whatever details he got from Keimi, that wasn't included.] ARE THEY OKAY!?

[Oh no! He's yelling at her! Shirahoshi shrinks back, curling her hands up over her collarbone, tears pricking at her eyes.]

I... um... th- that is. They. P- please don't yell at me, Marco-phoenix-sama!

Oh god Princess... I'm sorry...

[Flies over to land gently on her shoulder and pat her head soothingly with a blue wing.]

I was just worried. But you say that Luffy saved them??

[If any noise that comes from a two-story tall mermaid can be called petite, it's this sniffle.]

Y- yes. He did.

[And she smiles, drying her eyes.]

Jimbei-sama promised him lots of meat.

[Laughs and switches his wing into an arm, though he keeps soothingly patting her head.]

I'm glad. And I'm sorry we couldn't be there. Hearing that Pops' friend was in trouble...

At least Jinbei was there. And it sounds like you were in safe hands.

[He can blame himself, he can blame the marines, he can blame the other pirate emperors, the slavers, and all the other pirates of the world who took Whitebeard's fall to mean open season on his islands, but in the end, Marco blames Blackbeard for setting it all in motion.]

Who's Hody? That's not a rookie name I know of.

Um, I don't think he ever left Fishman Island. He wanted to take over and go to Reverie.

What? Why?

[Marco only marginally understands why Otohime would want to go to Reverie. Realistically, he better understood the rest of Fishman Island who were afraid of it. So wanting to take over to do it...]

Wait... and he endangered the King?

[The flames burn a little brighter, though not at all warmer.]

Oh, well... That is... He wanted to kill all the human kings, so people would be afraid of Fishmen and serve them.

Oh.... [A giant sweatdrop. That's a good way to get Fishman Island destroyed in a buster call.]

And Ace's little brother, Luffy stopped him?

Mm hmm! He was amazing! And super strong. Everyone was.

Good... I'm relieved, eh?

How is Jinbei now?

He's training all the Fishmen to join with the Royal Army to protect our island from Big Mam.

[Oh. Okay. This time he falls a bit before catching himself.]

Wh-What??

[That was a less than manly squeak there.]

Because Luffy-sama ate all the candy, and told Big Mam-sama that he would protect the island from now on, and Jimbei-sama is part of Luffy-sama's crew now and he told them to go on ahead, he'd catch up later.

[A storytelling prodigy, that's Shirahoshi.]

[Both hands on his face and switches them to wings.]

What is happening to the world?!

[He can't keep up, he's too old for this. He totally understands what Pops was saying about being an artifact of an older era.]

Ace's little brother is going to fight Big Mam... over candy. But either way Fishman Island will be protected? And Jinbei joined Luffy?! [But but but he wants Jinbei to join hiiiim. Okay, he'll get over it. It's just good that Jinbei is alive! And well! And keeping the island safe! And this means they'll see him again, definitely.]

Ahhh... I can't keep up. I'm getting too old for this. And still too young.

[Being a phoenix is hard. It's hard and nobody understands.]

[Shirahoshi nods each time Marco reiterates what she just told him. And no, she doesn't understand what he's talking about, being too old and too young. But she probably wouldn't anyway, even if it was something most people understood.]

Um, what makes you say that, Marco-sama?

Everything's moving so fast... Ds are like that you know?

I think I just want to live in the moment. Especially for now.

[But that worries him. Since he can't realistically just spend forever in Luceti avoiding dealing with Blackbeard and the rest of the world. In any case he leans against Shirahoshi a little and pats her head soothingly.]
