Adventure 1- The Surface [Action]

[Anyone in the area of Luceti's beach has probably just heard an ear-splitting, sonic screech. The astute observer (or, even the non-astute observer) may notice uncharacteristically large waves breaking up on the beach. For any curious enough, if they look out to sea, they'll notice something spectacular. A large pink mermaid is splashing about, swimming quickly one direction, then crying out- much more quietly now- and changing directions suddenly. She does this a number of times, then dives deep, only to surface a few minutes later, looking for all the world like she's trying to beat the world record for "longest surface jump made by a fish". Whatever her goal is, she doesn't appear to be achieving it, because the process repeats itself over and over.

Those with extremely good eyesight, or who are brave (or stupid) enough to try getting closer may notice a bit of flotsam trailing along behind her.

Well. I don't see him. So he might not- [Okay forget this, time to get to the point.] Okay, listen up, why are you so huge!?

Eh? It's just the way I am. I- is it weird?

[cannoneer]

Kinda, yeah. But I ain't really one to talk. [half robot and all]

[runawayhoshi]

[See? Stop being so discriminatory, gosh.]

I don't think you're weird...

[She did accept Franky, Brooke, and Chopper all without any hangups, after all.]

[cannoneer]

Uh. Well thanks, I guess. Kinda gives us something in common. Me being half robot, you being half fish and all.

[weakahoshi]

[Shirahoshi giggles, relaxing just a little.]

I guess it does!

[And then she gets shy.]

Um, maybe we could... I mean, if you want to... m- maybe...

[It's too much, and her voice trails off as a deep blush paints her cheeks.]

[cannoneer]

... maybe we should what?

[Oh man, she's trailing off. This is gonna be weird, ain't it? Yeah. Weird. Aww man.]

[weakahoshi]

[Shirahoshi straightens up and then bows a little, gathering up all her courage in order to ask this one thing.]

W- will you please be m- my friend?

[cannoneer]

[... okay, that he didn't see coming. His response is one of surprise.]

... your what now?

[cryinghoshi]

M- my f- friend... Since we're kind of the same?

[He's going to totally say no, she can tell. She bites her lip in anticipation, already staving off the tears that she hopes will wait until at least after he's rejected her.]

[cannoneer]

[... well uh. People don't usually ask to be friends. It just sort of happens.]

Uh. I guess? Sure. What kinda stuff do you like to do?

[cryinghoshi]

[Shirahoshi's so surprised when he says yes that she barely hears anything else that he's saying. She picks him up and rubs her cheek against his... everything, honestly. She's just so happy to have a friend in this scary new place!]

Eeee! I'm so happy!

[cannoneer]

[So this is probably the strangest experience to happen to him. Well, okay, probably not. His life is weird. But this is definitely surprising and he's too surprised to resist. He hangs there, smushed against her face, feeling like any dignity he had was being stripped away.]

Uhhh... uh, Shira?

[weakahoshi]

[She holds him out a little so they can talk.]

Hmm? What is it, Cyborg-sama?

[cannoneer]

Any chance of you putting me down?

[This is uh. Kind of humiliating.]

[weakahoshi]

Oh, right. I'm sorry.

[She puts him down quickly, then leans back, clasping her hands just below her collarbone.]

So, um. What is the journal for?

[cannoneer]

[Okay. Well. That's better? He looks away, feeling embarrassed.]

Uh, yeah. You use that to talk to people. Everyone in Luceti has one.

Is Luceti the name of this island?

[cannoneer]

Something like that. Only I'm pretty sure it ain't an island. But then, you really can't go visiting the whole thing anyway.
